Sneek Peek from a Teacher

We are seeing old businesses collapsing and new businesses emerging rapidly. We are seeing companies changing their ways of operating and ways how they receive their income. Disruptive innovations and disruptive platforms are changing the world. World is also changing incrementally by smaller innovations. Succeeding with innovations has become crucial skill for nations, companies and individuals.

What is needed to be successful with innovations? How are successful innovative products, services and business models born and grown? This question is interesting in both theoretical and practical point of view. The research shows clear evidence what is needed to foster innovations, how to commercialize innovations, and how to build successful products and services from the innovations. These things are not rocket science; we are talking about quite simple things that should not be too difficult.  Still, in practical business life we continuously see evidence how difficult those things are to implement in practice.

This is the challenge that interests me and drives me further with the research and teaching in this field: how can we practically improve our ability to improve our success with the innovations and innovation networks? How can we be more effective and more successful? We can learn from the stories of success and failures, we can learn from theories and we learn from the experiences inside the student group. Combining the theories into strong practical experience must be the key for the success. That is what we will cover during the module "Succeeding with Innovations and Innovation Networks".

Hanna Pihlajarinne, Senior Lecturer International Business and Innovation Management
