Instead of a traditional Christmas party (pikkujoulu) TAMK's staff had an opportunity to celebrate Finland's 100 years of independence. A festive Gala was arranged on 27 October in Tampere.

The guest of honour and speaker in the event was Member of Finnish Parliament, Mr Pekka Haavisto. He praised Finland's reputation in education which is high in all parts of the globe.

- I have witnessed this in several encounters. What makes me even happier is that we are willing to share our experiences. This makes no less of us, said Haavisto and thanked TAMK for its pedagogical gift for Brazil in honour of Finland's 100 years of independence.

In his opening words the President of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Mr Markku Lahtinen emphasized Tampere's role as one of the vital centers of industry and education in Finland.

- During the hundred years of independence Tampere has developed into the most attractive hub for higher education, a city where you can study almost all degrees available in professional education, professional higher education and academic university education. TAMK is one of the key players in the forefront building a better future and providing people with future competencies.
