Student Story - Information Technology
Home country: Finland
What are you currently doing: Senior QA Engineer at Vala Group Oy.
How did you find out about TAMK and what made you choose it for your studies?
I graduated from TAMK in 2005 (Software Engineering) and after working for about ten years, I thought about studying more. The project I was involved in back then allowed me to take some time to study.
I noticed an ad in the newspaper about the Information Technology Master's degree programme. It seemed to fit my background and current work situation. So it was perfect to me. A big plus was that I could study while working, and the classes were twice a week.
What did you like most about Tampere and Finland?
I was born in Tampere, but I'm currently living just twenty min away from the city, so the change was not so big. I liked that my work was close by, so I could easily drive to TAMK.
In what ways have your studies contributed to your professional and personal life?
I think that the studies gave me a lot of confidence in doing my work. That also reflected in my personal life. I thought that if I could finish these courses, I can accomplish other goals too. The programme being in English also helped.
How has TAMK supported your needs as a student?
All the teachers provided help for the practical works. But I don't think I ever needed the same help that maybe an international student would have.
What would you say to anyone considering studying at TAMK?
Go for it! TAMK has an international spirit with so many international students and study programmes to choose from.
