New sports arena to TAMK main campus

New sports arena to TAMK main campus

Tampere University of Applied Sciences introduces a new sports arena, which raises the sports services of the Tampere3 higher education institutions to a completely new level at Kauppi campus, Tampere. The TAMK Sports Arena will serve Unipoli Sport customers, i.e. students and staff of TAMK, the University of Tampere, and Tampere University of Technology.

The sports arena located at TAMK main campus (Tekunkatu 5) was extended and completely remodelled. It offers approximately 1,000 square metres of sports facilities: sports hall, group exercise room, gym of 300 square metres with core zone, spinning bikes, and climbing wall. The image is airy and light. There are changing and shower rooms upstairs and downstairs to avoid crowd even during the busiest hours.

The diversified sports provision guarantees that there is something for everyone.

- Average people have also been considered. For example, gym equipment strengthening the core, neck and shoulders will be marketed especially for the staff. The group exercise offers options from hip hop to spinning. It is now worth coming to test and find your own sport, encourages TAMK's Head of Sports Services Esko Tirkkonen.

TAMK's investment in the sports conditions is significant. It also responds to the national requirements. The Ministry of Education and Culture and Finnish Student Sports Federation set sports recommendations and criteria for higher education institutions. Along with the new sports arena TAMK now fulfils them with flying colours. The campus has excellent possibilities to promote student and occupational wellbeing.

With the Unipoli Sport fee the students and staff can use all sports services at the three campuses: Kauppi, Hervanta and city centre. The annual fee is 68 euros for students and 78 euros for staff.

- We have almost 40,000 potential users at the three higher education institutions and thus we cannot offer the sports services on the open market even if there probably was interest, says Esko Tirkkonen.

The architect firm Helamaa & Heiskanen Oy was in charge of the integrated design of the TAMK Sports Arena and the main contractor was Karhu Oy. The total expenses of the construction project were paid by Tampere University of Applied Sciences Ltd.
