TAMK Global Education, represented by Virpi Heinonen and Mark Curcher (from TAMK's Vocational Teacher Education), were invited to Antofagasta, Chile in June to take part in the strategic development of the regional education in an event called Educa 2030.

This is the framework created by Education Laboratory of the UNC (Universidad Catolica del Norte) which gives the opportunity to reflect on the future of education at the local level, together with leading experts from Chile, the United Kingdom, Finland and Spain.

Mark Curcher, responsible for the keynote speech "The changing role of the educator" presented his ideas to the audience creating a space for reflection. This was followed with a panel discussion and workshops, where hundreds of local teachers, managers, educators, university teachers, students, among many other key players in the education system were able to exchange words with the guests, in order to know their positions on the importance of innovation within education.

This event together with negotiations with local authorities were part of a bigger cooperation agreement planned to take effect within a year. The International Diploma Programme in Educational Innovation and Leadership (ILE) is an initiative carried out by Universidad Catolica del Norte (UCN) together with Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) in coordination with the Embassy of Finland in Chile.
