Brazil deepens education collaboration with Finland

José Serra, The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil and Timo Soini, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland signed a document that outlines the future collaboration between Brazil and Finland.

Brazil wants to strengthen cooperation in the field of vocational education with Finnish organizations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, José Serra and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Finland, Timo Soini held bilateral consultations. The ministers signed a List of Priorities -document on 11 August 2016 that focuses on cooperation between Finland and Brazil. In the part concerning education VET Teachers for the Future -programme is mentioned as solid example of successful educational cooperation. Tampere University of Applied Sciences and Häme University of Applied Sciences have provided the programme already 3 years to Brazilian teachers with good results.

 

TAMK in Rio's Finland House

Finland House – a showroom for Finnish expertise - was opened during the Olympic Games in Rio. The first group of graduates from TAMK's VET Teachers for the Future -programme, Daniel Coelho, Suzana Macedo and Ricardo Miguez presented TAMK expertise in education and teacher training to a local audience at the workshops held in Finland House. Education theme was present in the house for three days from 16 to 19 of August 2016. The opportunity to hear the experiences and success stories of these teachers in their own language was very important to the local audience. VET Teachers for the Future -programme has provided success stories to many local Instituto Federal do Brazil -schools. The teachers who have completed the programme have been successfully implementing the knowledge that they gained from Tampere into local context in their own schools.

Tampere University of Applied Sciences was represented by TAMK EDU's Customer Relationship Manager Virpi Heinonen promoting activities related to the sales of diplomas in Brazil, as well as promoting the global education opportunities for local actors.

During Friday 19.8.2016 Finland House received high-end visits of Minister of Education and Culture, Sanni Grahn-Laasonen and the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö. Both have mentioned in their speeches the good reputation of Finnish education in Brazil and the importance of education export to Finland. Finland House gained altogether 35 000 guest during the open house event.
