In the Degree Programme in Tourism, students will gain a wide-ranging, specialised training in the different fields of tourism, focusing on congress studies and business. The aim is to provide students with the competences needed in order to work in demanding tasks ranging from customer services to managerial jobs in tourism companies and organisations both in Finland and abroad. The degree is comparable with equivalent degrees in other EU countries.
Tourism graduates have the skills needed in the planning, implementation, follow-up, and development of tourism. Possible job titles include, for example, sales manager, marketing manager, reception manager, resort manager, travel secretary or manager. The programme also prepares people to start up and run their own business as tourism entrepreneurs.
The degree programme consists of core studies, professional studies, a bachelor’s thesis and elective studies. The professional studies include a period of practical training, which gives the students an opportunity to enhance their professional skills.
The most important study modules and focus areas are core studies and professional studies including practical training in Finland or abroad., congress studies and business, leadership and entrepreneurship, communication skills and tourism research, language and cultural studies.
The language of instruction is English. The teaching methods are lectures, seminars, workshops, project work, assignments conducted for companies, and company visits.
