Tourism

Travelling is my hobby and profession

Diego Rivas, Spain

Travelling and tourism are an important part of my life. Therefore, I wanted to specialise myself in this field and the professional aspect of it.

I came to Finland some years ago. After having worked a bit and studying Finnish for a while during my first year here, I seriously considered the possibility to study for a degree in here. After checking all the possibilities in Tampere, I chose to study Tourism. It was the degree that best fit to my aims. Travelling and meeting people from different places are one of my main hobbies. I have already been living and working in some different places around Europe. My main jobs were directly related to the tourism field.

The degree programme is very attractive and professionally oriented. I believe that tourism is such an important trend nowadays for any country as concerns its image, economy and culture. So I believe that having professionals in that field is a ‘must’. Therefore, the studies offer the possibility to get a wide professional perspective in tourism in a very multi-cultural environment. I am sure that it will help in our future careers. I also like that you can choose a lot language courses throughout the programme and then practice them with the exchange students. Sometimes we get to organize events-excursions and participate in some conferences held at the Congress Centre as assistants.

Tampere has all the facilities that a student can need. Student support here is very good, concerning benefits and health services for instance. The student association is also important in helping the students with their needs. Fun, student activities, international network, trips, knowing the Finnish culture are some of the attractions that Tampere can offer for its students.

I would basically encourage people to come and study in Finland. In addition, Finland is such a unique place and culture that to have the experience to be here is really worth while. I recommend students to attend some courses in Finnish language and also to read something about the culture and traditions of this country.
