International Exchange
Because of the demands of working life, TAMK emphasises internationality in all of its degree programmes.
TAMK students have several opportunities for completing a part of their degree abroad. These opportunities include participating in exchange studies, intensive courses and diverse international projects and undertaking practical training abroad. Financial support is also available for studying and doing practical training abroad.
Student exchange
TAMK students can complete a part of their degree abroad. TAMK has more than 300 foreign partner institutions, where students can go for a 3-12 month exchange period. If the courses studied abroad are planned and approved in advance, they can be included in the student’s individual study plan at TAMK.
When going to study abroad, the students receive a grant which covers a part of the travelling and studying costs. The students are also entitled to student financial aid and housing supplement during their exchange period.

Double degree programmes
TAMK degree students may apply for a double degree programme, where a part of the studies is carried out in a foreign university. A double degree programme is a programme organised together by two or more universities from different countries. Students graduating from a double degree programme receive two degrees: the Finnish one and the foreign one.
The prerequisite for applying to one of the double degree programmes is a valid student enrolment in the relevant degree programme at TAMK . The application period is normally during the second year of studies at TAMK.
TAMK offers four double degree programmes:
- Environmental Engineering with Ostfalia Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften, Germany
- Mechanical & Production Engineering with Fachhochschule Hannover, Germany
- Electrical Engineering & Computer Systems Engineering in co-operation with Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg, Germany, Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra, Portugal, Université de Reims Champagne Ardenne, France, Universidad de Zaragoza Teruel, Spain, Turku UAS, Finland and Satakunta UAS, Finland
- Paper, Textile & Chemical Engineering in co-operation with University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, USA, North Carolina State University, USA, Hochschule München, Germany and Jyväskylä UAS, Finland in the TAPS-project
Trainee exchange
The mandatory practical training period forms an important part of all TAMK degree programmes. Work experience acquired abroad is a powerful addition to a studeent’s CV and sometimes it may even be a prerequisite for employment.
For the most part, students find the practical training placement abroad themselves. Students who carry out their practical training abroad may also apply for a travel grant and/or practical training support.
Internationalisation at home
Students do not need to go abroad in order to gain international experiences, because internationality is a part of everyday student life at TAMK. This is ensured by having degree programmes which are taught in English, and by accepting large numbers of exchange students and international degree students. TAMK also has an international teaching staff, and welcomes a number of visiting experts from abroad every year. Internationalisation at home is thus supported by having some of the lectures, courses and entire degree programmes taught in English at TAMK.
The students' union Tamko trains international student tutors, who help the exchange students coming to TAMK to get started. The international tutoring at Tamko is very active, so taking part in tutor activities is a great way of finding new friends and getting to know different cultures. International tutoring offers interesting experiences and improves the tutors' language skills at the same time. Tutors organise diverse cultural and free-time activities all throughout the academic year.
