Practical Training
Keys to success
The practical training phase of the BBA in International Business is a demanding one. A successfully-planned placement which allows the student to use his/her skills and initiative to the full can lead to a challenging full-time position in a company. Usually the placement is done after the second year of studies.
The practical training is beneficial to all parties involved:
1. The student gains valuable work experience and starts building professional networks.
2. The company concerned gets new ideas and fresh perspectives. The student may subsequently become a full-time employee in the company.
3. TAMK BBA creates links with companies and collects new information from the projects. This information can be used in planning the curriculum and in future company projects.
Practical training requirements
All the students on the BBA in International Business programme are required to do a supervised practical training. This means that the contents of the placement must be accepted by the placement supervisor, and the placement must comply with the field of studies, i.e. international business. The placement can be done in one or two periods to make up a total of 5 months full-time work. The full-time requirement means a working week of 37,5 - 40 hours.
The objectives of the practical training from the student´s point of view:
- to get to know the organisation and learn to co-operate with colleagues
- to learn the practicalities of the field studied
- to visualise how the work placement duties contribute to the work of the organisation as a whole
- to connect theory with practice
- to create a good contact with the employer and colleagues
- to collect ideas for the final thesis
The students acquire the placement themselves. The students should discuss the practical training with the placement supervisor at TAMK BBA, and then return the Practical Training Agreement to the supervisor for approval and to be signed by him well before the start of the placement.
During the placement, the student must make notes, to be written up into a full report.
After the placement, the student must bring a copy of the work certificate and the placement report to the supervisor. A copy of the report is also sent to the contact person at the company.
