Media professionals have a lot to choose from
Eeva-Kaisa Ahlamo, Finland
The Degree Programme in Media was my choice, because I wanted to study something related to graphic design and the list of possible work titles accessible through this programme is impressive. I also preferred the studying language to be English because it gives me an advantage when going abroad.
The preliminary assignments of the entrance exam were varied and challenging, but quite a lot of fun to do. We had to prepare a sales pitch which we presented to the teachers, and continued with our pretask about colonizing Mars. In the interview, we had to try to convince the teachers why would we be the best candidates for the programme.
There are 24 of us and we are quite a bunch. We call ourselves IMPs, which comes from Interactive Media Programme, and in addition to the Finns, there are people from all over the world. We are motivated, hard-working and all in all, a very good vintage.
I was selected to be the spokesperson of our line, kind of a contact persons for the staff to inform us about important things and tell the teachers how we are doing in general. Now the idea has stretched a bit further, and I take care of many other things, too. I'm happy we seem to have so many people in our line who can and will
take the initiative. We've already had many great ideas how to make our studying more pleasant and productive. After all, we are all in this together.
The whole concept of media is so vast that no one can take it in as a whole, but I think everyone will find something of interest in any course. I haven't made up my mind yet about what exact route I'm going to navigate through this school. Anyway, I'm more into visual design and not that much into gaming so I'll be leaning towards that direction.
I wouldn't mind roaming around the world again, and I'm sure that this school will give me better chances anywhere I go. After all, the world is your oyster, or so they say.
