TAMK participates in national ESF-project TIPTOP

CSC - IT Center for Science Ltd is the project provider. University of Jyväskylä, Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, University of Tampere, University of Turku and the FUAS Federation of Universities of Applied Sciences (Häme, Lahti and Laurea) participate as subcontractors.
The TIPTOP-project aims at improving the completion rate of studies by supporting especially those students that have a below average completion rate. TIPTOP defines processes and services that will support the student's progress and also enable their tutors to spot performance problems at an early stage. This service concept will also take into account other contributing factors such as part-time work or exchange studies.
The services provided by TIPTOP include identification and acknowledgement of previously completed studies, and creating a personal study plan and following its progress. This enables the tutors to provide better support for those critical study phases that can result in dropping out or lack of progress. The focus in developing these services is on providing the data needed to spot and activate the students whose studies are being delayed or suspended. This data collection spans across university borders and includes learning instances, their requirements, personal study plans, attendance records and credits.
Personal study plans enables the student to maintain a relevant and degree-oriented study path in all phases of the studies. The service concept empowers university teachers and tutors with the tools to provide timely guidance and support to the students. The project will publish the functional and technical specifications of the service concept, thus allowing all Finnish universities to benefit from the results. The results can be further developed and implemented by commercial service providers.
