Student Union (Tamko) and Associations

The heart and soul of student life at TAMK is the Students' Union, Tamko. Tamko serves students in many ways and enables an active and diverse student life in Tampere. Tamko offers TAMK students several services and a variety of activities from sports to festivity. The most important tasks of Tamko are representing students within the administration of TAMK, and promoting the educational and social interests of students.

Special attention is paid to services for international students. For example, Tamko rents a Survival Kit which contains all essential domestic equipment, such as kitchen utensils and bed linen. The Survival Kit comes in handy especially for incoming foreign exchange students.

Tamko supports dozens of different student clubs and associations at TAMK. One of the most active is the Club International Tampere (CLINT), which organizes several activities for foreign and internationally-minded Finnish students. Tamko also co-ordinates the peer tutoring system at TAMK, so all the international peer tutors are trained by Tamko. Peer tutors help new students to adjust to studying and living in Tampere.

At the Tamko office, you can eg. reserve gym times, buy tickets for different student events and enroll for a variety of activities like peer tutor training, sports courses and excursions. Tamko members get discount on all services and activities which aren’t free of charge.

Tamko has about 5 800 members. All students studying at TAMK, including exchange students, can join. Tamko members get a national student card which entitles them to numerous discounts in Tampere and elsewhere in Finland. The easiest and fastest way to become a member is via e-form available at Tamko's website.
